My name is Dr. Lukasz Urban, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California (PSY30225). I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and my doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. My clinical interest and training has been in working with severe mental illness in various settings including community clinics, residential community facilities, elementary schools, psychiatric inpatient hospitals, and correctional facilities. I've had incredible opportunities to work with people of all walks of life: from children with Autism Spectrum disorder, to incarcerated men and women, to refugees from war-torn nations. Helping people overcome trauma, depression, and other difficult life circustances is my life passion which I hope I will share with you.Lifestyle
In my personal life I love to breakdance, produce music, surf, read, one wheel, learn piano, play video games, and spend time with family.
January 2022 - Sledding with my daughter
This is an example of how I interact with my 4-year old daughter based on Positive Parenting Principles. This approach relies on encouragement and fostering independence with a kind but firm approach to discipline. It's difficult to know what is the best action to take in any parenting disciplinary situation, and we all make mistakes as parents. It is important to treat our children as people with value who can make good choices for themselves if those good choices are modeled for them.
At about 17 minutes in, Ivy starts to argue and negotiate to stay longer. I give her clear choices and try to explain to her the reason we are leaving. I stay patient and answer her questions without just telling her "because I said so." I am also trying to not make the experience too punitive as she did not get her desired outcome. Later when I ask her to drop the snow before entering the building she complies and is not angry with me.
